How to Become a Coach:

  • Visit www.bchockey.net.
  • Click on “Coaches” and “Be a Coach” select the appropriate sessions.

3. Complete Mandatory Requirements:

  • Respect in Sport training.
  • Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT).
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Note: These must be done before helping with a team in any capacity, including dressing rooms, on the bench, or on the ice.

Coaching in Competitive (U13 & above) – Developmental 1, completion of post-task and on-ice evaluation.

Deadline for Clinic Completion

Remember that the deadline for full and successful completion all required Coaching Clinics is December 1st.

Concussion Awareness Training(CATT) Respect in Sport & CRC must be completed prior to attending any ice session.

NOTE: For the 2024 season: RIS courses taken in 2019 or earlier will have expired.

All Head Coaches U11 thru U15 must also complete Checking Clinic

Team Positions & Requirements

Coaches U11 – U21 Recreational Including Assistant Coaches Must Have:

  • Respect in Sport – Activity Leader
  • Concussion Awareness Training (CATT)
  • Coach level  2 with divisional module Clinic
  • Head Coach must have Checking Skills Clinic
  • Criminal record Check (done yearly)

U6-U9 Coaches Must Have:

  • Respect in Sport – Activity Leader
  • Concussion Awareness Training (CATT)
  • U7-U9 coaches must have Coach 1 with either U7 or U9 module
  • Criminal record Check (done yearly)

Safety Person Must Have:

  • Respect in Sport – Team Leader
  • Concussion Awareness Training (CATT)
  • Criminal record Check (done yearly)
  • HCSP – Hockey Canada Safety Course

Safety person can be on bench at games but not help with coaching (ie. opening doors), can not help on ice at practice.

Managers Must Have:

  • Respect in Sport – Team Leader
  • Concussion Awareness Training (CATT)
  • Criminal record Check (done yearly)

Competitive Coaches Must Have:

  • Respect in Sport – Team Leader
  • Concussion Awareness Training (CATT)
  • Coach Development 1
  • Criminal record Check (done yearly)
