News release – Tier 1 Competitive program

VIAHA has announced changes to the Tier 1 program for the Midget, Bantam & Peewee Competitive Teams.

Please see attached information regarding these changes.

If you are already registered for tryouts in NMHA you do not need to do anything, this is information for you.

If you wish to be registered for tryouts and are from Nanaimo, please contact the office by Aug. 1!

Bodychecking clinic will be July 22 &/or Aug. 18, please contact this office if you plan on attending.

NOTES:

Nanaimo tryouts will begin on Aug. 18th

Female players/goaltenders wishing to try out you can only try out for 1 team, either a Tier 1 Competitive team or a Female Regional A team, not both.

Players/goaltenders wishing to only tryout for the Tier 2 or Tier 3(see note**) teams should contact the office to let us know you will not attend the Tier 1 tryouts.

** Tier 3 teams will be based on numbers and skill and may not be available this season.

Summer FUN Hockey Camp

 

Dear Hockey Parents:

Nanaimo Minor Hockey is hosting their first ever Summer FUN Hockey Camp. This camp is intended for players looking to participate in some fun on and off ice hockey skills and drills prior to the upcoming season. Nanaimo Buccaneers Coach, Curtis Toneff will be leading the instruction of our Summer Fun Hockey Camp!  There will be no goaltending coaches or high-intensity training in our camp.

We have kept the registration cost of this camp low to maximize its affordability in contrast to most other hockey camps and programs.
Groups will be limited to 30 skaters and 2 goalies per group, with registration opening on Monday, April 23rd at 5 pm. “Don’t miss out on the FUN, spaces will go fast!”

Please note that ALL bench staff including managers & safety persons, must have completed Respect in Sport – Volunteer, Concussion Awareness Training, and a Criminal Record Check, prior to stepping out on the ice or in the dressing room or helping with the team. If you are uncertain how to obtain this, please contact the office.

Coaching Certifications – keeping current

This document is very important for ALL coaches in our association, it outlines on page 2 thru 5 the details of remaining current with your coaching status.

NCCP Info

Coaches who hold any recreational Coaching course must complete 10 Professional development points(PDP) every 5 years.

Coaches who hold Development 1/Intermediate (competitive)must complete MED, online evaluations and 20 PDP.

On page 6 the MED course that must be completed by all coaches who currently hold the Development 1 coaching course.
