Elevate Your Game with Specialized Training Programs
At NMHA, we believe in providing our players with comprehensive training opportunities to enhance their skills and elevate their game. Our Skills Development programs are designed to target specific areas of hockey performance, ensuring that every player has the chance to grow and excel.
We offer specialized training programs, with coaches Matt Hughes, Nolan Kurceba, Heath Dennison, Curtis Toneff and Tyler Gow.
Please ensure you have registered your players for these programs in the correct age groupings, unregistered players will be asked to leave.
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
Sessions will consist of a variety of skills appropriate for the level of player, with power skating, defence, shooting and scoring and small area games that work on all scenarios in the game to increase skill, as well as hockey IQ,

HOLIDAY DEVELOPMENT ICE – Dec 27 & 28, 2025
Nanaimo Minor Hockey is excited to announce that this December we will be offering specialized development sessions led by an outstanding coaching team.
We are proud to welcome Heath Dennison and Curtis Toneff as our player development coaches, bringing their extensive experience, high-energy instruction, and passion for skill growth to our program.
We’re also pleased to have Nolan Kurceba providing expert goaltending development, ensuring our goalies receive focused, position-specific training.
These development ice sessions will be age-specific, this is a great opportunity to learn from some of the best.
Register your player as soon as possible—spaces are limited and expected to fill quickly.
GOALIE SESSIONS
These camps will be small groups at a max of 12 goalies. We want to ensure the player gets value
and reps in these sessions that will be ran by our goalie coach and hockey operations staff.
Each session will have a different focus and be designed with the needs of all the participants in mind.

OFF ICE SHOOTING AND SCORING TRAINING
TBA FOR SPRING 2026 SEASON
We will focus on the technique of the different shots and be sure to touch on wrist, snap, slap and backhand shots during the program. We will also work on different scoring scenarios, shooting from angles, through and around obstacles and shooting in motion as some examples.

Nanaimo MHA is excited to announce our new 3 on 3 Floor Hockey program, this is a casual one-hour session every Wednesday @ 3:30-4:30pm NIC 1, from April 2 through Jun 25, 2025.
Current registered Nanaimo MHA players in U9, U11, & U13 only, 20 players and 2 goalies only per division. $150.00
Note: Players are to be wearing helmets w/facemasks, gloves and elbow pads, pinnies will be handed out, so ensure they are wearing a long sleeve t-shirt style or jersey and good running shoes that can be tied securely. MUST have water bottle and floor hockey stick too!
Recreational Tournament Teams
What is a Recreational Tournament Team?
A tryout takes place with players from division – U11, U13, U15 & U18 in January, to create one team per division, to attend one tournament at the end of the season in Powell River.
Please note there are extra costs to attending these tryouts of $30.00. Teams/players will also have to pay for tournament fees, practice fees, and travel, tbd once selected for a team.
Teams will practice 2 times per month in an early weekday am slot 530am-630am, so there is no conflict with regular season play.
